With its mixture of indigenous, French and British traditions, holidays in Canada have a complex character and huge range of holiday attractions and activities. The mountain playground of the magnificent Rockies and the rugged west coast will blow you away, while the well-known cities ooze culture and diversity. With so much water around, there’s plenty of opportunities for boat trips, canoeing and white water rafting, and beautiful walking trails for nature and wildlife lovers.

Ski holidays in Canada offer the enthusiast all types of skiing conditions. Skiers are spoilt for choice, with good cross-country skiing found all over, and popular alpine ski centres in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia. For holidays in Canada, AITO specialists offer tailor-made, package, luxury or activity holidays with accommodation ranging from motorhomes and tents, to working cattle ranches and luxury log cabins. Here’s a few suggestions to get you started:

  • Wander the streets of the old town of Montreal, filled with bars, restaurants, shops and musicians, or visit one of Ottowa’s many museums, celebrating Canada’s history and landscapes
  • Take a day trip from Toronto to the spectacular Niagara falls, or tour the famous wine region of the Niagara peninsula with its picturesque wineries, many of which offer year-round tastings
  • Visit Churchill and witness the unique gathering of the majestic polar bears or try your hand at husky sledging and stay at North America’s first ice hotel in Quebec
  • Take to the saddle and ride through the breathtaking alpine scenery of British Columbia. Travel the mountains nomadic style spotting moose, mountain goats, grizzlys and black bears along the way

Spring, Summer and Autumn are all ideal for touring and fly drive holidays, though if you want to ski you'll have to go in Winter or early Spring. For campers and those who want to visit the far north, the summer months of July and August are best. Peak tourist season is between mid-June and mid-September. Travel in the Autumn to see the grizzly bears fishing for salmon, or in February to experience Quebec city’s Winter carnival or Ottawas 3-week ‘Winterlude’. Also popular is Montreal’s Jazz festival which takes place at the end of June.
