Featured holiday: Cruising the Amalfi Coast
Peter Sommer Travels Cruising the Amalfi Coast

We visit some of the best known places in the
area, such as Capri, Pompeii and Amalfi, famed for
their beauty or history. We’ll also explore lesser
known sites such as the underwater ancient city at
Baia and have the chance to see the outstanding
Roman frescoes of the Villa Oplontis. These more
‘minor’ places easily match the celebrated
highlights in terms of the splendour of their
architecture and location, and walking around
these uncrowded antiquities creates an
unforgettable and atmospheric experience.

The mountains and villages of this region are
justly renowned for their picturesque charm, and
there is no better vantage point than the deck of
our gulet as we cruise along the coast, or ride at
anchor as delicious meals are served. There will
be ample opportunity to swim in the Mediterranean
Sea, or sit back and relax, read a book, enjoy a
glass of wine, or discuss the sights and sounds of
the day with new friends.

This cultural tour in Italy, led by an expert
historian and archaeologist, is a perfect
combination of magnificent sites, breathtaking
vistas, glorious swims and mouth-watering local
food.

Itinerary

Day 1 Our gulet is about 50 minutes south of Naples airport at the Marina di Stabia. Welcome dinner on board.
Day 2 We sail to the thriving town of Pozzuoli, ancient Puteoli, where we will see the ancient city intermingled with the new and enjoy a sumptuous dinner of freshly caught seafood.
Day 3 To Baia, with its wonderful archaeological museum and sunken city, which we will drift over in a glass bottomed boat before sailing to the Island of Ischia.
Day 4 We explore Pithecusae, one of the most successful Greek colonies in the west, before sailing south to the island of Capri where we can swim in its azure waters and visit the famous Blue Grotto.
Day 5 A leisurely walk from Capri town to the Villa Jovis, set right at the very tip of the island with breathtaking views all round. The Emperor Tiberius spent many years in much-rumoured seclusion in this Roman imperial palace. In the afternoon we sail for Amalfi and an evening stroll to admire its cathedral, the Duomo.
Day 6 Inland across the mountains to Pompeii, the most spectacular and complete archaeological site in Italy. We will explore it in detail and picnic among the ruins, then sail west to anchor off Positano.
Day 7 A last chance to swim as we head past rocky Sorrento to our gulet’s home port, the Marina di Stabia. We will discover the beautiful Roman frescoes of the Villa Oplontis, some of the finest in the world, before ending the tour with a sumptuous farewell meal.
Day 8 Transfer from our gulet to Naples airport, approximately 50 minutes away.
